Chromecast - unreliable playback?

I've got the newest generation Chromecast with the latest firmware. Playing seems to work fine for music/playlists that I have offline but it SEEMS to fail 100% of the time for playlists/songs that are NOT downloaded.

This seems counter-intuitive because it's not even playing songs off my phone with the Chromecast. Is this a known limitation or could anyone shed some light on this situation? It'll just auto-advance to the next track, or if it's an entire "online" playlist, it will just self-pause

I have 2 CC audio, and plays mostly online, it kinda works ok, besides spotify support for CC being really lousy. It break the stream, lags or pauses now and then but when it gets going i mostly works ok.
I would really wish for Spotify to support CC from their desktop app.

I have the same problem. Spotify is lagging, hanging, got stuck in pause at the beginning of songs, or buffering problems through Chromecast.

I can use Netflix (which uses a lot more bandwidth) with the same devices without problems, so the problem seems to be just with Spotify.
