Bluetooth volume problems

Apologies in advance, as I'm sure this has been asked and answered. When I play over Bluetooth (headphones or auto), Spotify plays at normal volume for a half second, then cuts to a low volume mode that is unbearable. I sent an email to customer support and got the following response:

"At the moment our app doesn't official support playback via Bluetooth so experiences can be unpredictable and we are unable to provide any viable troubleshooting tips."

Seems odd for such a great app to be deficient in this very important regard. Any help appreciated, and thanks in advance.

I'm on a Google Nexus 6p, running whatever version I just downloaded from the Play Store.

Can you try disabling the eq on your phone and seeing if the issue persists?

That worked. Thanks. Is the basic idea to rely on phone equalizer over
Spotify equalizer?

The EQ you access through Spotify should take you to the one on your device. Spotify doesn't actually have an EQ built in - it just taps into the one on your device already.
