Google Maps stops when spotify is playing

I have a Moto G Android that in the past worked really well to use spotify and maps at the same time. But now I have noticed that I'll start my directions on google maps and if I try to play a spotify song at the same time, google maps just stops and cancels the directions. I have to go in and manually restart my route. Any ideas how to fix this?

Thanks, I’ve got an Android version 5.1 on a Moto G phone. I’m using Spotify 5.8.0.1029

Everything with Spotify seems to be up to date in your phone. We'd suggest following the next steps to soft reset your device:

Press and hold the Power button (located on the right edge of the device; above the volume keys) until the options menu appears then release.
If the device is unresponsive/frozen, press and hold the Power button for approximately 5 seconds or until the device power cycles.
Tap Power off.
Allow several seconds for the device to power off.
Press and hold the Power button until the Motorola logo appears then release.
Allow several seconds for the device to power on.
