Android Auto and Amazon Echo interactions

I am seeing a weird long-distance interaction between Spotify on Amazon Echo and Spotify on Android Auto.

I have an Amazon echo device at my home connected to my spotify account and my cell phone logged into the same account.

When driving I have my phone connected to Android Auto in my Honda Civic.

I was driving home from work yesterday, listening to Audible. Without prompting Android auto switched from Audible to Spotify and told me I was playing a song from one of my playlists. I did not get the audio playing through the car speakers. As it turns out this happened when my wife had started playing the playlist on the Echo at home. In the car I switched back to Audible and my wife reported that the playback on the Echo was stopped. After several rounds of her trying to play her music and me trying to listen to audible, stepping on each other's efforts unknowingly I guessed what was happening and switched over to listening to the radio...

How can I stop this from happening? It appears that Spotify connect is causing spotify to take over Android Auto.
