For as long as I can remember mine has done this too. (Now I'm embarrassed I didn't look for help!)

I type out the text on notepad (or somewhere that will accept typing) then copypaste it into the spotify search box.

Or

Tap a previous search, type in the new search, then backspace the original text to delete it. If you get me.

like<STRIKE> then backspace the original</STRIKE> type in the new search,

Hey,

this really sounds strange. 😕

So your app is crashing?

You can try some general things like clearing Spotify's cache/data.

Check out: https://support.spotify.com/using_spotify/troubleshooting2/android-cache-clearing/

I hope this helps.

If not tell me. 😉

Your playlists stay like they are. They are stored online. 😉

You just have to download your songs again to be able to listen to them without an internet connection.
