Equalizer takes a second to start

I'm on a Google Pixel running 7.1. Basically when I click on a song, the song starts without the equalizer enabled. Then after a second, the equalizer kicks in. It's really annoying because it interrupts the beginning of every song. It doesn't do it when I'm listening to several songs in a row, only the first one. But it is every time I skip a song or start a new one. Very annoying.

I have a Nexus 6P with the same issue. It is extremely annoying. However it seems to happen when you have the equalizer and crossfading enabled. If you disable crossfading, it doesn't seem to happen for me. Still buggy, though.
