Android app extremely slow and uses a lot of CPU

I've noticed that unlike the MacOS and iOS versions of Spotify the Android app is ridiculously slow and uses a lot of CPU.

I'm using an NVIDIA Shield Tablet K1, there are no other performance issues with other apps. It's not a network issue. I've run through the Android troubleshooting guide on this forum to no avail.

Basically, the moment I start the app it's super slow barely responsive. I've had to adjust the per-app settings to limit its CPU usage or it will literally turn my tablet hot to the touch and cause any other apps that run simultaneously to also become sluggish.

Seriously, there's some kind of grave performance issue with the Android app and it's incredibly frustrating.

Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this that isn't just "read the troubleshooting thread"?
