topic Pause/Play Not Working -- Please Help in Android

I've seen this topic a few times but no solutions unfortunately. I've also tried getting help from Spotify tech support, with no help there either.

When using a bluetooth headset the pause/play button (single tap) doesn't work with Spotify. The next (double tap) fetaure works just fine. This problem only happens within the Spotify app, and no other media players. Also, it seems to be specific to bluetooth headsets as my wired play/pause button works just fine with Spotify.

Also, I have tried using the same bluetooth earbuds with other devices and have no problems with them, until using Spotify. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Spotify -- this provided a little relief but the problem was back in an hour or less. I'm currently using version 8.4.22.857 armV7 -- I've tried updating the app and the phone (Samsung Galaxy S8+) and no luck there either.

This is a big bummer for me since all my music is downloaded on to Spotify and it's imposible to pause my music to talk to somebody whether at the gym or outside walking the dog unless I take my phone out and pause the music on screen.

I've tried just about everything I think and could really use some help. Would appreciate any advice you all could give me. Thanks.
