Stop Spotify on Android from sending notifications while the app isn't active

The problem I am experiencing is that, when listening on my PC, I get notifications on my smartwatch every time a song is paused, played or changed from my desktop, as this updates the control notification on my phone. This is incredibly annoying. My Spotify app on my phone isn't even open, so I've no idea how it's recognising I have Spotify playing on my PC - perhaps it's due to to being on the same wireless network. I obviously want to control my Spotify when I listen on my phone, but when I am not using the app or I explicitly close it from my multitasking menu, I don't expect my phone to communicate with my desktop when I don't want it to.

I have the same problem but with the notification in my phone (android). It's really annoying.

Yeah, my problem stems from the phone notification as well - it wouldn't be so bad if it was just on my phone, but the fact that the smartwatch vibrates every time the phone updates with the new song is infurtiating.
