article 20 Pins Later: Rethinking my library in Community Blog

I've always treated my library like a rotating shelf: whatever's pinned at the top is the part of my collection I want to see first, every single day. Thing is, for a long time I only had 4 slots for that, and honestly, it never really bothered me much. For me, the limit was part of my listening habits: I'd pick my pinned playlists, artists or shows and carry on.

But now, the pin limit on Your Library is going up to 20. I finally stopped to realize how many of my playlists deserved to be within reach and never had the space: the studying one, the gym one, the one that only plays on Sunday mornings. Now everything fits up top, all at once, without me having to pick who gets left out.

Luan_0-1783568283817.jpeg

When reading up on the change, I also realised previously Liked Songs and Your Episodes came pinned by default (even though you could unpin both at any time). For someone like me, who only pins music-related items, this means I can unpin Your Episodes and pin more of the items I actually use most.

The update is already available globally, on iOS, Android, and desktop, and it's one of those quiet changes that will be very helpful to organize what you listen to. If you'd never noticed how many usable slots you actually had either, it's worth opening your Your Library right now and trying out the new limit, just to see what was still waiting for a spot up top.

Love this update! Having 20 pins makes it much easier to keep all my favorite playlists and artists within reach without constantly rearranging them. Small change, but a very useful one.

This is a small but genuinely useful quality-of-life update. I was also used to working around the old pin limit, but having more space makes it much easier to keep different moods, routines, and playlists ready without constantly swapping things around. It’s a simple change, but for people who use their library daily, it makes the experience feel much more personal.

As someone who doesn't use pins my issue is that "playlists" that I don't use (new episodes and your episodes) tend to auto-sort into the way (so to speak). It's not an issue with "liked songs" because even though I don't use that function either, by not having any liked songs, the playlist isn't there at all. I guess I'd like a "pin to the bottom" option since we can't seem to get a way to delete or hide those podcastlists. And you do need "your episodes" sometimes because for some reason a downloaded episode from a podcast you don't follow will only appear there (instead of in the downloaded podcast list, where you'd think it'd be).

The more pins the merrier I suppose, doesn't hurt me any. If we had unlimited pins that would more or less solve my problem (because I could pin everything except for the ones I didn't create or want).

I'd trade all the pins in the world for the old library format though.

It’s definitely a welcome improvement, and going from 4 to 20 makes the feature much more useful.

That said, I still don’t really understand why there needs to be such a low hard limit in the first place. For people with larger libraries, 20 pinned items can fill up very quickly across playlists, artists, albums, podcasts, and other frequently used content.

If pinning is mainly a way for users to organise their own Library, it would be much better to either remove the limit altogether or set it high enough that most users never have to think about it. So yes, 20 is a big step forward from 4, but it still feels unnecessarily restrictive.
