Does anybody know if it is possible at all to disable full screen album artwork playback on iOS? Thanks.

There is no option to disable that but you can submit your idea in Idea Submissions board or support it if this idea has been already submitted.

Spotify has reimagined the user experience for the free tier. For any change to the app you can refer to this FAQ about Spotify free on mobile.

UPDATE:

With Spotify 8.4.90 you can now go to Settings>Playback and turn off Canvas to disable the artist uploaded videos.
