i pad 1 connection problems

My Question or Issue

I have an I pad 1. The very first one produced. It is pretty useless for anything apart from playing spotify through my ipad docking stereo system which is all I use the $900 piece of garbage for. Recently I can access Spotify playlists and radio stations but can no longer search. I have updated to where I am allowed with iOS and Spotify but still no joy. If I search I get a message I am not connected but still can use the other functions. Is there anything I can do apart from throw throw the Apple piece of **bleep** into the rubbish bin?
