topic app problems with recent apple watch update in iOS (iPhone, iPad)

I updated my apple watch series 3 yesterday and went to use the app today to teach a fitness class and there were SO MANY issues. It froze several times and the volume control on the side turned into a weird floating green dot instead of white lines and I was unable to turn the volume up or down from my watch. The worst for me is that the auto timing for the track which used to be in the top left corner is no longer there and I can't figure out how to get it back. This was super important for me to have and now it's gone. Does spotify need to release an update for the watch app to remedy this problem or is it the watch itself?

precious screen with track timetop of watch just says "spotify" now

Device

(iPhone 6s, apple watch series 3 38mm)

Operating System

(iOS 10, Apple Watch ios 6.1)
