Airplay timeout on iOS? v8.4.53

Today I've started to notice that whenever I pause playback while connected to an Airplay device, the Spotify app disconnects from the Airplay device and audio returns to the iPad speakers when I restart playback. Is this a new behavior for the app? A bug?

Given how many clicks it takes to choose an audio device for playback (a bad interface design choice), this is damned annoying.

I'm using AirPlay instead Spotify Connect, so I can reply to you. Disconnecting from AirPlay device after pause playback is a normal behavior of iOS or macOS. It's done to free Wi-Fi channel, and save battery in case of mobile device.

The native Music app on the iPad times out after 10 minutes, which is
expected and acceptable. Spotify times out in as little as 30 seconds. I
often just need to pause for a quick phone call. I then have to reconnect.
