Spotify no longer plays while using other apps

I am no longer able to play music on Spotify on my phone if I want to use other apps at the same time. As soon as I open another app such as WhatsApp Spotify stops playing. I have already tried deleting and redownloading the app but this hasn’t resolved it.

please can you help?

Hi @PollyS,

Thanks for the post.

Could you try restarting your device? If that doesn't help, try a clean reinstall of the app following these steps. This is a more througout re-installation which will clear all app data for Spotify before reinstalling.

You can also go into your iPhone's settings and make sure Background App Refresh is switched On.

If you're still having trouble, let us know the current Spotify app version you're running.

Welcome to the Community and thank you for joining the conversation.

Since this issue is usually caused by the way that the phone manages the apps, would you mind confirming if you already checked your phone settings to see if Spotify has permissions to play in the background?

If so and the issue persists, could you check if it happens using the Web Player or a different device logged in with your account? This will give us a better look at the issue.

Lastly, it would be great if you could have someone log in with their account on your device - such as a friend or a family member, to see if the issue persists. This will help us understand if it could be account-related or not.

Tried all of the tips, nothing works. Problem is the same on my samsung and my wife and daughters Iphone. Problem started a few weeks ago all of us at the same time.

We'd like to gather some additional info. Would you letting us know the exact make/model and OS of your device along with the Spotify version you have currently running?

On another note, can you share with us the troubleshooting you’ve already done? This way we can avoid repeating any steps.

Lastly, did you notice if this started to happen after a specific event such as an OS update? If yes, please send us the details.

I have a new IPad 10.9 and we want to have Spotify (free version) playing as we open Safari and read the news paper.
Spotify has the option App in the background in green. But when ever I go to the webpage, it stops.

Hello I'm having a same problem too, I used to be able to play my beach body workout app at the same time as Spotify. But there has been a change in the last year ear and only one audio to be

listened to at a time

do you know when you have a fix for this.? I have an Android phone

Thanks for your reply and for the info shared.

In this case, if you haven't yet, we'd recommend a clean reinstall of the app on your device to check if you notice any difference. By doing that the app can be up-to-date and you can make sure the cache is not leading to this inconvenience. You can find out the steps for doing it here.

If the above doesn't do the trick, we'd like to gather some additional info. Would you mind sharing with us the make/model and OS version of the affected device along with the Spotify version you are currently running?

Lastly, just to confirm, is this happening just when you're running the app you kindly mentioned, or does it happen no matter the app you're using while playing content on Spotify?

works fine for me when scrolling

through whatsapp and other apps.

obviously when an app will try to autoload media

it will silence spotify. but other than that

seems fine for me.

could be the issue is with older ios versions

A lot has changed since 14.8 that's for sure
