Local files not appearing on spotify

I've done every step but no matter what I do I can't get the local files folder to appear in my library.

Hi there folks,

Welcome to the Community and thanks for reaching out!

In order for the local files on your iOS device to show up in the mobile app, you'll need to add them to the dedicated Spotify folder. You can find it in the Files app > On My iPhone. More info here.

What about on a Windows 10 Desktop? The "Local Files" folder is GONE from the library. "Show local files" is eneabled in settings and pointed to the correct local folder on the desktop computer.

Hey @1232047827,

Check if you've accidentally set a filter in Your Library that may hide the Local Files folder. It might also be unpinned, so look for it using the search bar next to the sort & filter options. It's worth using another directory for your local files and adding it as a source in the app's settings. Also, make sure that your files are in a supported format (.mp3 or .flac, for example).

If your local files still don't show up, I'd recommend resetting your preferences by deleting the prefs file from the Spotify installation folder:

Open Spotify and make sure it’s running in the background.
Open the Task Manager in Windows and switch to the Details tab.
Locate the process Spotify.exe, right-click it and select Open file location to open the Spotify folder. There you'll find a file called prefs, which holds info about the currently logged in account. Simply delete it.
While in the Spotify folder, you'll also find a Users folder. Open it and delete its contents as well.
Restart the Spotify app.

Note that you'll be logged out and your settings will be reset, so you'll have to adjust them again. If you had content downloaded for offline listening, you'll have to re-download it as well. Your liked music/podcasts will not be affected, so no worries there.

Hello, I am having the exact same issue as OP, and following these steps still has not solved the issue for me. I am at my wits end, I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, clearing cache, deleting any and all files related to Spotify off my computer, nothing has worked. On windows 10 PC.

Can you please try downloading a few free MP3s from the internet and adding them to your Local Files folder to rule out any file compatibility issues?

Thank you, this was actually the issue. I'm not sure why the mp3s I've been trying to use haven't been working, but at least now I know what the issue is.

I wanted to add some songs on my spotify playlist and for that I turned on "Show Local Files".

I've added the mp3 files in my music library but I do not see the Local Files appearing anywhere (I've read that you should be able to see them when you click on "Library").

What am I doing wrong?

My Question or Issue

I have audio files in the Spotify folder in my files app and I have enabled “show audio files” in Spotify settings multiple times. I have also allowed Media and Apple Music. The local files playlist still seems to not show up in my library. What should else should I do to allow the local files to appear in my library?

Welcome to the Spotify Community!

Check if you've accidentally set a filter in Your Library, as it might be hiding the Local files playlist. It's also worth rebooting your phone - this will force a resync of the app, which may help here.

If the issue persists, I recommend performing a clean reinstall of the app and following the steps from this article again to start with a clean sheet.

Whenever I click on a recently downloaded song in my linked files, it says it’s not downloaded. I have everything necessary turned on and files in the correct spot as every other song works . I tried clearing the cache but it didn’t work.
