My Question or Issue

I tried to turn on explicit content but it requires touch ID, which is broken on my phone. So so far it looks like theres no other way to turn it on

If you go into settings on your iphone and scroll all the way to spotify and click on it, it will display all of the permissions that the app asks the opperating system for (like siri&search, notifications, background app refresh, cellular data, and touch ID). If you disable the touch ID permission, this will force spotify to authenticate using your pascode rather than touch ID when you try to reenable explicit content.

For iPhones that use FaceID, the same method applies, just disable FaceID instead of TouchID.

What about the iPad? how do I authenticate the Touch ID I try to touch it and no go. What do I do with the iPad? I don't want all the explicit songs just a few. Or do I have to have ALL the explicit songs? or is that a dumb question?

I went to the settings on my iPad and went through EVERY choice and even on content preferences when I turn the explicit content on it still asks me for Touch ID. How in the world do I get it to change that? I appreciate your advice but it was for a iPhone NOT an iPAD so would anyone be able to help me with my iPad?

Dear Landon, I went to my settings. I feel like an weirdo. I forgot that you meant the settings on my iPad and scroll to Spotify, well after I kicked myself for realizing what you meant. I looked for the Touch ID. You know what? I couldn't find the Touch ID. I know it wasn't there. I went through everything that was there, and I don't think it was there. I had photos, local network, camera, Media & Apple Music, Siri & Search, Notifications, and Background App Refresh. It's different then the iPhone. I would really appreciate your help with my iPad if you can. If you can't can you find someone who can? I'm really getting frustrated with my iPad or spotify or anybody LOL. no I'm cool with it. I would like to hear Meredith Brook's **bleep** again though. Thank you for your help. Sarah

Matt, my name is Sarah. I go by the username 18kidneystones since it's been 25 but I digress. I don't have a reply to your wrapped column, but you look smart and groovy and I'm somewhat desperate. Please don't take that the wrong way. When I saw your picture something told me you wouldn't blow me off. So, enough rigamarole. Here's my dilemma. I have posted a question on ongoing issues but have NOT received the correct answer. The original question was placed back in 2017 and my question was placed yesterday. The question is: How do you stop the Touch ID Authenticate on your iPad? NOT your iPHONE? I miss understood Landonharris88 when he said go to settings and scroll to spotify and go to Touch ID. I thought he meant go to settings on Spotify....DUH. well when I figured it out I did as told and there was no Touch ID. It's not that I want to hear all those nasty rappers or all those GNR songs but I like Meredith Brooks, if you know what I mean and even this forum won't let me type Id..t and that's what I feel like. So any help you can give me is shirley 🙂 appreciated. Thanks youz - Sarah

Hey @18kidneystones,

Apologies for the late reply here. We did some testing though and there's something we can try!
For us, the Touch ID pop up only appears when we try to play an explicit song while it's blocked and that redirects us to the settings. If you go to the app settings first instead, you should be able to turn explicit songs on without verification!

Note: The explicit content setting enables or disables the entirety of the explicit songs.

Sorry for the late reply. I've moved your post to this thread to keep things more organized.

When you turn on "Allow explicit content" in the Spotify app settings it then allows all explicit content to play. There is currently no option to only allow some explicit content to play. Right now the setting is either to allow all explicit content, or to allow no explicit content to play.

If you would like to listen to a song with explicit content, then it is recommended to leave the setting turned on.

When you turn off the "Allow explicit content" setting, Spotify will then require authentication when turning this setting back on. Either Touch ID, Face ID, or passcode depending on what method the device supports. This happens because if the device is managed by an adult or parent, then the kid or someone else using the device can't accidentally turn explicit content back on. Currently there is no way to make it so the app does not ask for authentication when turning explicit content back on. So every time you turn the "Allow explicit content" setting off, and then back on, you will have to authenticate to switch the setting back on.

If you are having a problem turning "Allow explicit content" back on and you cannot authenticate to turn it back on, it could be that the authentication setting for Explicit Content got messed up when changing this setting several times in the Spotify iOS app.

If you're still having trouble turning "Allow explicit content" back on, you can try deleting the Spotify app on your iPad, and then try reinstalling the app. "Allow explicit content" will be turned on by default when you reinstall the app and it should fix any trouble you were having with this setting. And then you can leave the setting enabled to be able to play explicit content.

Please note though, that when you delete and reinstall the Spotify app, your music and everything will still be there on your account, but any settings you changed in the Spotify app specifically on your iPad will need to be redone when you reinstall the app.
