spotify app on my apple watch wont let me change the sound

if i use the now paying app, i can skip the song, use the crown to change the volume, and pause the volume, i can do all that and more, apart from changing the volume on the app. If i pause the song, change the device that Spotify is using to the watch using the crown to change the volume, but then i switch it back to using the phone, it stops working, and i have installed the app and reinstalled it.
