Importing itunes playlists

I was wondering if anybody has had the specific problem I am having. I have a ton of music on CD all of which I have imported into itunes. I have never bought anything. I own it all and have it on my MAC. I signed up for Spotfy Premium. The playlists titles show up in my account but most of my music is not there when I try to access it on my iphone app. When I log onto my computer the playlists have all of the music. Am I incorrect in assuming that I can find the music on Spotify on my computer because the music is there in itunes? Why can't I access the music on Spotify on my iphone. The titles are there but only a couple of songs of all of them are there. Is this a synching issue? What am I doing wrong? I appeciate any help at all. Thanks! Andy

Local files have to be copied from the desktop to your iphone - called synching. Try following this guide to synch one of your playlists andse how it goes.
