Volume button turns screen on

When using the volume buttons while the phone is asleep the screen comes on with the volume graphic. Is there any way to stop this? It's a bit annoying when listening in bed or just the fact you have to keep pressing the sleep button again.

You could adjust the brightness so that it only gives off a faint glow instead of a bright blinding beacon.

Pretty sure the volume controls are part of the iOS operating system and not controlled by Spotify themselves.

that's strange, my iPhone doesn't do that.
