Hey there, does everything work okay if you're not streaming/connecting via Bluetooth/in your car?

Siri + Spotify = Fail

I have a big issue with Spotify and it is that it makes Siri inoperative. The same exact setup with other music apps such as Digitally Imported, Pandora and Shoutcast works without a problem.

Unfortunatly I drive an old car. It has a dock connector for iPod/iPhone for music and it has bluetooth but only for phone calls (headset/handsfree profile). So I pair my phone with the car for phone calls and siri works with that great. I press the button on the phone and instruct Siri. I connect the dock connector and I can listen to Pandora. If I activate Siri while listening to Pandora the music pauses, the radio displays "PHONE" and Siri works fine through the bluetooth.

Enter Spotify. This arrangement does not work because it seems that Spotify tries to claim the dock output constantly. When I activate Siri the radio displays "Phone" for a brief moment and goes away. Siri stays activated for a few more seconds and goes away because Siri can't hear anything. If you tap the bluetooth icon at the bottom of the screen it gives me two choces; Bluetooth and dock connector. If Spotify is running dock connector is selected. If I manually select bluetooth nothing happens. Pressing the bluetooth icon again brings up the same menu but dock connector is selected.

This is a bug in Spotify that the developers need to address.

Please read with care:

1. I do not stream the music through bluetooth.

2. This is a bug in spotify. Everything in my setup works as intended with all streaming apps, e.g.: Pandora, Shoutcast. However when I use Spotify I am unable to use Siri.

3. I have posted in the bugs thread.

4. I have contacted Spotify support. They are not interested in reporting this to the software developers. Spotify support is ignoring my requests actually.

Why do you say "do not stream the muisic through bluetooth"? A2DP (used for bluetooth audio streaming) can handle around twice the bandwidtn of spotify's "extreme" setting of 328kbps. And tech specs notwithstanding, I have done a/b testing a few times- I cannot tell the difference in audio quality between connecting to my car via bluetooth vs the headphone connector. For contrast, I can easily tell the difference between spotify's nomal, high and erxtreme bitrate settings even on cheap speakers. Now in fairness, I've read that manufacturers vary in how well they implement A2DP, but I've never had a problem with my gear.

EDIT: sorry I wish I could delete this post but I can only edit it- I see now ou are saying YOU do not stream over bluetooth, my bad (and my waste of time lol).
