issue on multiple devices

I have had Spotify for a couple of years now and never had an issue but I just downloaded Spotify for my girlfriend's phone and put it on my account which is fine but whenever one of us starts listening to music out starts on the other phone then if whoever didn't start it pauses it, the music stops on both, rather irritating really, any suggestions?

Welcome at the Spotify Community!

You can only use Spotify on one device at a time. Let's say you have 2 devices with the same account, A and B both want to listen to music.. that won't work. Only A or only B can listen to music, but not at the same time.

Also you say you start it at A and you hear it on B.. do you have Spotify Connect enabled? If yes, please make sure Spotify connect is off.

You can't disable Spotify Connect. Basically you can't share accounts (unless one of you wants to listen in offline mode all of the time).
