Playback stops after certain local files

Sometimes when I listen to music I imported into Spotify, Playback stops after one of a few local files finish playing. The next song up does not start and when I drag the playback dot, it snaps back to the end. I have to skip ahead to the next song manually to continue playing music. My Spotify and iPad firmware are both up to date.

This is a very annoying bug. Sometimes encoding the files to mp3 again works but it hasn't for one track. If this happens to be a problem with the files, I don't know how to fix it.

Hi. Have you tried reinstalling spotify? This will clear the cache so you'll need to resynch your music. If that doesn't work for you, could you post some additional information, thanks.

I have reinstalled Spotify many times. The same tracks do not go on to the next track after finishing. And remember, these are files I imported into Spotify on iOS, not music I synced for offline playback.

Same exact thing with me. I have 2 imported tracks mixed in and EVERY time it comes to the end of that track, it stops. I have to MANUALLY hit the next icon to continue listening to my playlist. Spotify... what gives? On all my iOS devices. (iPhone 4S, iPad2)

I'm having a similar issue with certain local files stopping playback. Reinstalling didn't fix the problem, and it's persisted for a few months now.

I'm using an iPhone 4s with iOS 7.1, Spotify Premium, version 0.9.4.25

I found that on all my devices (laptop, android or ipod) that spotify stops after the playback of certain local files . always on the same files ,

These Files have all one thing in common . the length info for that track seems sort of mixed up in any form.

The length shown in spotify didn't match the length in the mp3 tag AND/OR the actual length in the mp3 tag even didin't match the actual time length of the song . On some Songs I could fix it using MP3Diags . changing the length info in the mp3 file .

But still for some tracks, I couldn't . The Problem seems to have different issues. But the root of the problem seems to be the interpretation of the track length in Spotify .

But nevertheless ALL .... I mean ALLLLLL other Media Players ( MediaPlayer / VLC Player / itunes / on PC or mobile decive ) are cabable of playing these exact tracks with no problem at all !!!!!!!

In Crossfade Mode or not . Does'nt matter . I mean, these are my old itunes Tracks, that I had in my Playlists on my Ipod / Laptop / mobile Android device all the last years with no problems at all ) I find it a very poor performance for a 10 EUR / month service .

The purpose of a playlist is, that you have CONTINUOUSLY Music Playback !!!!!!!!!!! isn't it ????

Yep! Having the EXACT same problem with it stopping on imported tracks. What gives? are they even TRYING to fix this? Not gonna keep paying for a service that sucks on fixing it's bugs!!!

Thanks so much for pointing us to the solution / workaround, RobertRtanmail! After editing the songs' info through iTunes and selecting the "stop" option, voila! problem solved! 😄

iTunes Solution Recap:

Right-Click Song
Select Get Info
Select Options
Check the stop checkbox, which does in fact display a song's duration that does not match the rounded off duration you see in other applications, including Spotify.

Example: 3:44.888 in screenshot attached shows rounded off to 3:45 when you check the file info in your OS and Spotify. Apparently this triggers a bug in Spotify that stops your Playlist's continuous playback when the song is done playing.

Hi,

It could be that you are right that the "Stop" field in Itunes is marked to 3 decimal places on tracks where this freeze is occuring, and that this is triggering the bug, so kudos to you guys for noticing this.

However this solution doesn't work for me for at least 3 reasons:

For me, in Itunes, If I go in to try to edit the "Stop time", I cannot round it up to the next second up, I can only round it down. If I do this, if there is a track that is (for example) 3.06.999, can can't makt it 3.07 in the Itunes library. I can only make it 3.06. This then means that playback will potentially stop before the end of the track if I want to play it in Itunes and there is less than 1 second gap at the end.

Secondly, even if this solution did work, it would involve manually editing all the tracks which doesn't seem to me to be a good solution. I think the real solution is for Spotify to fix their app so that it doesn't have this bug.

Thirdly, even if I do round down the time to the next second down, the solution still doesn't work for me I'm afraid - I still get the problem happening, especially if the track duration is rounded up from the track stop time.

Hopefully this will give spotify a clue as to the problem.

I mean , even if that does the trick. I cannot accept that as a solution . I could not find one single other media player that wasn't able to play that certain tracks with no problem at all . why do I have to do the work , when I am the one who is paying 10 EURO per month, what is not even the price for any of these alternative media players, because they are for free.

I had the same problem with my old iPhone 4S and now I stillhave it with my brand new Note 4. Every time Spotify plays one of my synchronised local files (files from my computer's library) it freezes at the end of the song and does not go to next song. It does not happen with files from Spotify that I ahve made available offline. It only happens with my own files and it only happens in me mobile devices not in my computer.

This does not work! I have tried it and I still have the same problem. And even if it worked, I am not going to manually change the length of a thousand synchronised files. This is a bug and it has to be solved by the software developers not by us. By the way, this is in no way new. I already had the same problem with my old iPhone 4S and now I still have it with my brand new Note 4. Still happening to me on Android 4.4.4 as well. The tracks work fine on the computer. I thought it could be an issue with my SD card, but I had the exact same problem when I removed the card and saved the tracks directly to device memory. I've been fighting this particular bug for months.

I'm having the same problem with my phone, Droid Turbo. Laptop is fine, but the playback stops after every local file off my laptop that has synced onto my phone. Really annoyed, it is useless like this.

Same problem for me with the Android app on files imported as MP3s. I've put tracks into playlists to make albums for artists that aren't on Spotify that I have the CD/downloaded versions of. Listening to the sequency at the end of Abbey Road is infuriating, having to press play all the time!

I also had the same problem when I used Deezer, that presumably means it's something to do with the phone itself. Although, I don't see why the developers couldn't find a way past it, it sounds pretty basic to solve.

I am having the same problem on Android. Locally imported MP3s stop playing at the end of the track and don't contiune on to the next track without manual intervention. I have tried turning on/off crossfade and gapless w/ no change in behavior.

Spotify Version: 2.2.0.636

Android: 4.4.4

Note - these MP3s play fine and continue on to the next track on the desktop application. Just not on the mobile app.
