If it matters, it's an iPod Touch, but I'd like to know for all mobile devices in general.

I've searched the forums but the stuff I've found contradicts the others: I know the option to change it isn't there, but some people think mobile devices use volume leveling, and some think not.

Hopefully it's off, because it apparently messes up the dynamic range, and sometimes makes tracks stutter (e.g. "Dreaming of the Crash" on Interstellar soundtrack)

Hello there @micfiend13!

You can verify in Spotify's settings if the audio normalisation is on.

Just follow these steps:

Tap on the three lines at upper-left corner, then tap on the gear icon.

Go to Playback and you should see the switch for Audio Normalisation.

It is usually turned on.

Hope this helps! ♫

I don't have any players that are compatible so I can't test it, I'm only going to buy one if I decide to use Spotify. Do you mean mobile devices do have the option to turn it on and off? Definitely?

Looks like it was added back about 3 months ago:

https://www.reddit.com/r/audiophile/comments/3n51cw/spotify_psa_reminder_to_disable_loudness/

https://community.spotify.com/t5/Live-Ideas/Volume-normalization-for-mobile-devices/idi-p/13337/page/8#comments (last few posts here)

It seems like it works on iPhone, but some Android users had problems. Is there any reason why it wouldn't work on an iPod Touch?

What do you think the chances are that the option will be removed again? (and is it possible to keep the option by not updating to new Spotify versions, or downloading old versions?)

Thanks DasPeter for your help.

Thanks a lot ! You solved the problem with "Dreaming of the crash" from Insterstellar !

I disabled the audio normalization and the track is now ok 🙂
