Syncing local files to iOS

So I'm having a particular difficult time syncing songs I own (for example 4:44) from my macbook (where the local files are) to my iPhone.

I've talked to 2 different folks at Spotify and done everything possible (restart; re-install).

The last person I've talked to suggested that I try to log in to a test account cs_test_1 and go from there -- but I have yet to do so, because ... well, ain't nobody got time for that.

Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas on why this may not be working for me?
It's not my macbook pro's firewall.
I'm wondering if it has anything to do with AT&T's firewall... but I don't think I'd know how to work around that (though I've tried to google...)

Anyway, any help, ideas, suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
And for the spotify employees the last conversation reference number is 4295303005.
