Plan

Premium

Country

Lithuania

Device

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2, but also a Chrome Browser

Operating System

Android 10

My Question or Issue

I have marked quite a few songs as "loved" and then put them in my personal playlist. In addition, I have set Spotify to download the whole playlist, so when I view my playlist I see the heart icon and a small arrow to show that the song has been downloaded.

However, when I open another playlist created by someone else, "loved" tracks are no longer correctly marked. In particular, one playlist contains 2 songs that I have in my personal playlist as well and I have "loved" them both, but only of them is shown as "loved" in that playlist.

Note, that both songs have the green arrow to show that I have downloaded the song, so the songs must be the same ones as in my personal playlist. I have checked the album of the songs, and it's the same album - not the case where one is from an album, and another just a single.

Originally noticed the issue on Android application, but then I checked the Chrome browser and it also doesn't show that I "loved" the song.

Hi @Ver,

Don't have another account to check, however URIs do reveal something. I have seen this happen with another songs as well. "Strong" by London Grammar for example:

In my personal playlist the song is https://open.spotify.com/track/1Szvr1s4BZlsb7DeDiY5J5 and it's coming from this album https://open.spotify.com/album/0a1jypQpuHifoY7T5HH15m

But the song on the public Spotify curated playlist is https://open.spotify.com/track/6k1I9gABiasGZiWWAosAEb and it's coming from this album https://open.spotify.com/album/0Jxn7c5MQwqvkahOp4YiB5

The albums look identical and Spotify app on Android is able to recognise the songs as being identical, because they both have the green arrow telling that I have the song downloaded, but only one of the songs has the "love" marker set.

Hope that's enough information to investigate. Thanks.

Hey there @vinillum,

Thank you for your post in this thread.

Could you send us the Spotify URIs? To find it:

Open the Spotify desktop app and go to the content.

Click (...) and select Share.

Click Copy Spotify URI. The code is copied to your clipboard.

Paste the URI into your reply.

You’ll know it's right if it looks like this: spotify:album:123456789. It’s not the same as a link, which starts open.spotify.com.

We'll keep an eye out for your reply.

Hi again @vinillum,

Thanks for keeping in touch and sending that info.

We can see that the URIs of each album and track are different. This happens when an artist decides to reupload their music to Spotify, therefore a new URI is created for the new content, even when it's the same track/album. When an old version is removed, the original URI starts redirecting to the newer version, but both URIs remain in Spotify.

That's why the track appears as liked (💚) in one playlist but not in another, as both URIs are different and technically, you only liked one of the two ''versions''. However, Spotify recognizes it's the same song and that's why both appear as downloaded (green arrow), as you already have one of those ''versions'' downloaded.

We hope this sheds some light on this. If you have any questions, give us a shout.

Cheers!

Hi @CarlosE,

Thanks for the info. Since Spotify is able to tell that it's the same song, can't it also tell that for the purposes of likes? I use likes quite a lot as both a visual and playlist-like reminder, so not seeing that I have already liked the song is a bit of a nuisance.

I guess, you could treat that as a feature request. Not urgent, obviously, but it would be nice if developers added this into their backlog.

Thanks.
