Can’t stream local file to third-party device

My Question or Issue

I have some local files which I want to import onto my phone to play within Spotify. I’ve managed them to upload them to my desktop Mac, added them to a playlist and synced everything so that the songs appear on both Mac and iPhone. So far, so good.

However, what I want to do is instruct Spotify to play through a separate Amazon Echo device. I can do this for any native Spotify songs, but not my own, local files. That’s not 100% true actually - it gives me the option to play on other Apple devices, but cannot to connect to any of my Echo’s (of which I have about 8).

Any ideas how I can resolve this? Any assistance much appreciated!

I forgot to add; the specific message it shows under the greyed out devices is ‘playback restricted’.

Hey there @jonnypa85!

Thanks for the question. I'm afraid that currently Spotify doesn't support the feature of playing local files via Connect, only the music that is available on our servers can be played.

We have an idea about making that possible here. Keep in mind that ideas with the status Case Closed are still monitored by Spotify and can be implemented at some point.

This feature needs to be implemented.. we can AirPlay to compatible devices but not Spotify connect to play locally downloaded songs from our devices?
