A Few Issues But Lets Start With Imported Local Files Not Playing

My Question or Issue

I was overjoyed when I found I could add my MP3's from my PC to Spotify. It meant I didn't have to find all of my favourite songs 1 by 1 as I initially had been doing. (I am new new to Spotify - 2 weeks)

Now to the issue, I added the folder that has all of my music, it's all MP3 2731 tracks as Spotify counted them. They all showed up in a folder that has been named by Spotify as "Local Files".

I pressed play, instead of hearing a song, there was a popup "Spotify can't play this right now. If you have the file on your computer you can import it"

It is on my computer and it had been imported.

I then ripped the ZZ Top file you see in the screen dump just to make sure the file wasn't somehow corrupted and clicked on play, and I got the same message as I had earlier.

I don't know if it's something I'm doing wrong, I don't believe I have, as I am new to Spotify I'm not 100% certain.

Can someone please help me?

Hey @Fiery_WA,

Thanks for posting in the Community.

There is a protection against playing copyrighted material as local files on the app. This is probably the reason why you can't play the files. We suggest you to find the content in our catalog and play it from there. This way you'll be able to use the app to its full extent.

If you are not able to play content that is not DRM protected, you can try performing a clean reinstall of the app as described here.

If this error pops out when you try playing content from our catalog, it most probably means that your sound output settings (on the PC itself) may have to be changed. Try different configurations.

No not really, all of my music I have ripped from CD's I own, and then why would Spotify have this option if it can't be used?

Thanks for getting back to us.

Just to confirm, have you followed these specific steps to listen to your local files in the app?

If so and it still doesn't work, it's well worth running a clean reinstall of the app on your PC to get rid of any cached files that might be causing trouble.

Seems like multiple people have been reporting this issue for years and it is still a problem that your app claims to allow access to local MP3 files, legally purchased, but doesn't play them. These posts all say the same steps that don't work. Is this really just a runaround to pretend that you can import local files but really force people to stream from your catalog only? Why the tease?

well here we are two years later and spotify STILL hasnt fixed a way to play a legitimately purchased digital album held locally (that isnt on spotify already - artist's discretion I guess) .

none of the "fixes" work.
