My Question or Issue

Please let users choose if they want to add a song to the queue by default on selection (clicking/tapping), instead of (accidentally) clearing the whole queue and start playing the new song with the new playlist immediately.

You may not want to change the current behavior, but a new toggle option, like Add to queue by default would be nice. When this is used a menu item in the song may clear the queue if required.

This is especially frustrating when multiple participants are controlling the playlist, like in the new Jam function. Please consider the following use case:

The default behaviour should be that only adding to the queue is allowed and replacing the queue is allowed for selected users only, because it's quite rare, that you want to replace whole queue in party mode.

Anybody please?

When using Jam even Add to queue is broken.

Button puts the song into the list as next but when it should play, it simply disappears and original order continues.

Or am I using queue in some wrong way?

You can also have a look in our Idea Exchange to see if someone else has already made a similar suggestion. If there isn't one, you can give these steps a go and submit your idea so that other users can also support it. The higher the number of votes an idea gets, the more likely it is for it to be implemented.

On another note, in a Jam if you tap on the 3 dots next to a song and choose the option "Add to queue" or just swipe right on it, it should be added to the queue as the next to play. If this is not how it works on your end, we suggest that you log out and then log back in to your account twice in a row to see if that makes the difference.

I'll check out Idea Exchange.

Add to queue seems definitely failing using Spotify Connect with a Soundbar and Jam with two iOS devices all on the same network. Spotify was logged out, deleted, reinstalled and logged in again on both iOS devices, joined by Spotify Jam.

When adding songs via Add to queue from a guest device, songs appear in the queue, but some of them (not all) are skipped. You can simply reproduce it by adding a single song.

Is this a known issue?

Could you send us a link to a video recording of the issue so that we can take a look? If you can't attach it here, you can instead upload it to a cloud service like Google Drive and share it - just make sure it's accessible by anyone with the link.

And by guest device, do you mean the user account that has been invited to the Jam?

Sure.

Scenario:

iPhone and iPad on iOS 17.1.1 (latest)
Spotify 8.8.90 (latest)
Samsung HW-Q990C firmware 1004.0 (latest)

Using Spotify Connect (Soundbar plays via WiFi directly, not BT connection) and Spotify Duo subscription.

Each account is logged in on each device. No invitation is needed, Jam is started on local network, Spotify instances are seeing the Jam automatically, one starts, another is simply joining in Spotify app by button press. It does not matter who starts the Jam.

In the video two songs are added to the queue by the guest device, first one is skipped.

Note: adding to queue works fine in standalone playing, without using Jam.

This website is Microsoft OneDrive, but no worries, turned out I could convert it to a format which the forum allows.

Thank you so much! The video gave us a clear overview of what's going on 🙂
We did, however, try to replicate it on our end and everything worked without any issues.

In order for us to investigate further, please let us know the following details:

Are the skipped songs always the same or does it happen to every song while in a Jam? Have you noticed any patterns?
Would the same issue be observed on a different device or is it strictly connected to the Soundbar?

Hello,

this may be an edge case, as I could not reproduce it in some scenario either.

It is unrelated to songs, but unfortunately I do not have other AirPlay devices. Please make sure you use AirPlay and not BlueTooth connection.

Here are the reproduction steps when it occurs:

iPad: connecting to SoundBar (AirPlay), starting a Jam, choosing a playlist and start playing it
iPhone: joining to Jam via local network (not via link, all devices are on the same network)
iPhone: search for artist -> song -> Add to queue
optional: repeat step 3

Result: first queued song is skipped, then playing continues in order (as seen in the video).

In the opposite direction (adding to queue from iPad to iPhone which started the Jam) now worked fine.

Retested with same devices with latest iOS 17.1.2 and Spotify 8.8.94.

FYI: the issues still exist.

- a functionality like Jukestar

- "Add to queue" skips first song when using Jam and Spotify Connect

Spotify is an excellent service, but using Jam is totally painful with these.

i guess almost every spotify user knows that problem.

add the possibility to flag a running playlist as protected... if i click a new song i have to confirm clearing the playlist.

I'm Mike.

Let me point out three things:

1) A absolutely agree and support Endre first idea and supported by him arguments;

2) Ways of finding resons by you, Spotify, to find excuse to not take care of that request now is hillarious.

3) I wanted to add completly new idea, but related to this one - could it be possibile to change the behaviour behind 'Add to queue' menu option? In soft eng words speaking - it's works LIFO and I (personally) like to change it into LILO.

In 2026 and Spotify don't bring back this resource that I've been used before. But there is a way to prevent clear the queue, by disabling guests to pause, jump or modify queue,
