Adding albums from another source on PC

My Question or Issue

I'm not sure how to explain the issue I'm having coherently so ask me for further clarification if it doesn't make sense.

Anyway, when I first joined spotify a few years ago from Itunes I imported all my Itunes library as playlists. However, some of my music wasn't on Spotify at the time, The Beatles, AC/DC, Pink Floyd etc. Anyway, at the time I don't think I understood the mechanism of how spotify played those Local Files and I copied over several copies of my Itunes library on to my PC.

I'm currently in the process of trying to download the remaining artist/albums that a still aren't on spotify, mainly Kate Rusby but I'm having difficulty "pointing" spotify are the correct source. All the albums of hers that I have show up as playlists but they're all empty. When I try and "fill" them with the music I can't get Spotify to add their location on my PC as a source. I know that there are copies of the Itunes files in the Music and Downloads" sections of my PC. I've even tried adding the individual folds containing the files as a source but nothing is working. Can anyone help me?
