Spotify won't play entire song only a preview

Why did you guys' change that? My phone was workin perfectly fine with me being able to pick what song I want to listen too. It makes no sense to make us pay for a premium JUST so we can CHOOSE what song we can hear. Honestly this is annoying and frankly it won't work. I'm going to a different app to listen my music too.

Thanks for posting in the Community and welcome.

We hope you don't mind us moving your post, as it fits better here in a new thread.

In this case, would you mind sending us more info about the issue you mentioned in the other thread? Add as many details as possible, and we'll do our best to help.

Now, we'd like to add some insights. Keep in mind that the Preview clips feature has evolved over time. Now, there are 2 ways within the app in which you can preview content:

Explore this playlist: it allows you to explore 30 previews of tracks inside a playlist, so you can discover new music content without playing the entire playlist per se. This feature can be find at the top of most playlists.
Add to this playlist: when using this option, which you can find at the top of your playlists, you'll get redirected to a menu with different sections that suggests content you can add there. There, you'll find previews of the content:

This applies for both Premium and free accounts on the mobile app version.

I don’t see that option for previews of content and that entire menu is not available for the liked songs. Maybe this a screen shot of what you are referring to.

As I said ALL my liked songs will ONLY play previews. It just started a few days ago. I’m on the FREE version. My playlists play entire songs. I’m so frustrated with it, I’ve noticed many others posting this issue here there also. I talked to support 3 different times, no help at all!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for your reply.

We fully understand your frustration, but we need to confirm that Spotify's free tier comes with a certain set of limitations and playing your Liked songs on demand is one of them.

However, you should still be able start the playlist in Shuffle mode by clicking on the green play button at the top of the page.

Hi there,

Welcome to the Spotify Community!

Sounds like you're using the free version of the mobile app and you're previewing the Liked Songs playlist.

By clicking on the individual songs, you enter a preview mode the app would play a short segment of the song. In order to play a song from the beginning, you'll have to press the big green Play button at the top.

Note: the mobile app for free users doesn't fully support on-demand playback in some regions, meaning most music will only be available in Shuffle mode. Still, there are up to 15 "special" Spotify playlists (usually found under the Made for you section) which allow you to pick and play any song.

This is not answering the question

Go playlist > select song wanting to listen to > only plays a preview and does NOT start the playlist from that point

When scroll a playlist to pick a song to listen to, you dont want a preview, you want the playlist to start from the selected song, this is how it is for 100% of media other than the spotify app.

My Question or Issue

The songs were listed in the text paragraph. When I checked my liked songs, only previews were available. It started when I opened my app on my phone and noticed an update. Updated the app and clicked on one of my playlists and all of the songs were gone. I panicked at first, then noticed it was still there just in the form of previews. When I tried on my computer, everything was fine. So I tried several methods. Logging out, reinstalling, checking permissions, resetting settings, resetting my network settings and so on and so on. I even made a whole new account! Nothing helped. So can someone please help? Advise something? Explain? Anything?

The question is not being addressed by this.

Playlist > Choose the song you wish to listen to > plays a preview only; the playlist is not started at that time.

You don't want a preview when you browse through a playlist to choose a song to listen to; instead, you want the playlist to begin with the song you've chosen. This is the case with all media except the Spotify app.

What is being asked is this.

why would anyone want you to play a playlist featuring the song they searched for instead of playing the actual song they selected. such braindead UX. i dont care if thats how the free access has been, its god awful and malicious to your listeners.

you dont care and wont fix this either. good thing im not wasting my money giving it to you anymore. doubtful i ever return as a paid user now.

That "answer" is worthless. Boiled down, it means that the mobile app (and only the mobile app) is deliberately crippled unless you fork over too much money per month for the "privilege" of playing what you want to play when you want to play it. The ad revenue is apparently not enough. That's a good way to drive current listeners to other apps that are less greedy. I would rather use that money to buy music and own it permanently.

Seriously Spotify what the **bleep** are you doing to us talk about a **bleep**ing cash grab we have to pay for premium in order to listen to a full song now or choose what we want to listen to? I've been using your app since it first came out and I'm going to delete it now this is ridiculous not even YouTube is this greedy

I hear you brother. It's like you have to create a new Playlist for ever individual song. I thought I pushed a wrong setting in the app or trial period ran out. Spotify would be alot better if they reverted back the way it was before. Pick a song from Playlist and play that song. That's why I use youtube more these days. Spotify listen to your users and you just might get old users BACK!
