Plan

Premium

Device

Echo Dot + PC for monitoring / play controls

My Question or Issue

To further describe the setup, I have an echo dot (amazon alexa) which I start Spotify playback on and at the same time I start the Spotify app on my PC in "playing on different device" mode (the green bar at the bottom). This way I can use the play controls on the PC app to select the song / playlist to play etc.

As the title mentions, I'm having an issue with shuffle (both regular and smart modes).

- Smart shuffle seems to completely ignore the playlist I was playing and just play 100% songs that are not on my playlist that I started playing.

- Normal shuffle seems to have a weird cache effect. Basically it plays songs in shuffle mode (which seems to have a very irritating "AI based" selection process as opposed to random - but that's a different story), but then if after listening to a couple of songs in shuffle mode I choose to play a specific song from my playlist, after this new song ends, it will start playing the songs I already listened to before in the exact same order. Ex. I let it play 10 songs in shuffle mode... pick a song manually.. after that song it will repeat the first 10 songs in the exact order.

Hi there @Xevyr,

Thanks for reaching out!

We had a reported issue last month about Smart Shuffle only playing recommended songs here, but it was fixed shortly after so we'd recommend making sure that there aren't any pending firmware or Spotify updates on your devices. You can also try checking if this happens only when you're connected to your Echo dot or when using the desktop app directly as well.

We also have this thread, which is similar to the issue you're experiencing with the regular Shuffle and it was reported to our tech folks for further investigation. It looks like this might be happening when the playback is changed manually, but in order not to miss out on any updates we'd recommend subscribing to this thread to get notified.

Hope this clears things up.
