Cannot select songs on my "Liked Songs" playlist while Smart Shuffle is enabled

My Question or Issue

I noticed yesterday and today that if I have Smart Shuffle enabled on my "Liked Songs" playlist, I cannot select individual songs to play, meaning that when I tap any individual song, nothing happens. The only way to get music to play is by using the general "Play/Pause" button at the top of the playlist. I thought this might be an intentional design, but it doesn't do this on any of my other playlists that allow Smart Shuffling.

It doesn't matter if I'm playing via Bluetooth or directly from the mobile app. On the desktop app, I get the error message "Spotify can't play this right now. If you have the file on your computer you can import it."

Hey @jmarcil1, thanks for reaching out to the Community!

If this only happens on Desktop, can you try a clean reinstall of the app following these steps? These steps are more thorough than a simple reinstall. If that doesn’t work, can you send me a screen recording of what happens when you click on a random song while Smart Shuffle is enabled? Also, does this happen when Smart Shuffle is turned off?

Finally, can you share with me the make and model of the device(s) this happens on? Make sure to hide sensitive info when posting to the Community.

Everything in my post refers to what happens on my Pixel 9 Pro XL, running Android 16, up until I mention the issue that also occurs on the desktop app. This issue only occurs when Smart Shuffle is turned on.

I'm attaching a video of when shuffle is off, shuffle is on, then Smart Shuffle on. You'll see I can select random songs fine except for when Smart Shuffle is on.

I decided to try some troubleshooting, and the fix was to uninstall and reinstall both the mobile app and the desktop app. Everything is working normally now.

This is great news - I’m happy you were able to resolve this. Yes, a clean reinstall is typically the best way to go to start, because sometimes these types of issues can be rectified with a simple app refresh.
