Duplicate albums

basically every album has a duplicate identical version that makes saving the songs pointless and ruins all of my playlists. Searching the album or going through the artist page only gives one album, so you have to go through a convoluted process to just access the album you may have saved all the songs from. Is this not possible to fix…? It’s necessary to keep a bunch of exact duplicate albums..?

It shows that I’m currently listening to “unison” only in 1 version of the album. This implies there is more than one version of the track!

There are literally completely different record labels on each album how are y’all not aware of this💀

I had previously liked all the songs in one version of the album, so I just liked some of the songs or added to my library or whatever it’s called now, from the other version of the album. In the pictures you can see that I have liked some songs twice and they show up twice in my library. This implies that there is more than one version of each track! Hope that helps.

Thank you very much for the screenshots and the detailed info. We see what you mean here, both versions are identical but have different links and only minor differences like some spellings and one song being 2 seconds longer. Please feel free to report this as shown here.

However, in your original post, you mentioned that this happens with "every album", but so far we haven't been able to find any more such cases. Can you send us the links to a few more examples of this? That will help us see if this is a deeper lying issue and investigate this.

Thanks for getting in touch about this here in the Community.

The behavior you're describing can happen when an album gets reuploaded by the distributors. If they have different metadata or URIs, the app will check backstage to link to the accurate track, but it will currently miss to transfer the liked status to the newer version.

We've provided guidelines to distributors of what they can do to keep tracks fully in sync and basically overwrite old versions, but we know this is something that occurs.

We appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback with us and will make sure to pass it onto the right team, as we always strive to improve your experience.

Artists will release the same song on different albums, so if there was a way to filter the duplicate songs that are added to "Liked Songs" to be able to remove a duplicate to save on storage.

also when i try to add the albume to "mega playlist" stops me by saying the duplicate question

Duplicated songs and albums

I've noticed something interesting. Sometimes there are duplicated songs and albums. And I mean in the catalog, not in a playlist.

From other topics I understand it's related to how distributors upload them, but here's an interesting part. I've noticed it on this song:

Same song, one has Explicit tag, They come from different albums:

However, when I try to unlike the song from one of the albums, it gets unliked from both. So it looks like there's an underlying mechanism that identifies that it's a same song, but shows it as two songs/albums in UI?

Is it possible to merge them back? And, in general, is there a way to report such cases (as this is far from only case)?

As opposed to the previous one here we have different publication times for the albums, but it's still connected somwehere in the DB, as unliking one unlikes the other one as well.

ive just found best representation of my/this problem it shows that song is added to a list and not at same page simultaneously (the upper picture , ive just added the second picture as just in case info)

I have the same problem, duplicates of the same albums and same songs appearing in the list of the.n

Note that the two albums have different publication date but are exactly the same (slighlty different color of the cover?). Nevertheless only one of the two albums is found by the Spotify search engine.

it’s absolutely ridiculous. and it seems completely random when it decides to consider two releases as the same and as different. this has been an issue for several years and spotify still refuses to address it.

The two album have the same songs and when i play the song in one album, it shows as playing in another too. But the likes and playlist addition treat it as two completely different songs and I can add two instances of songs at the playlist.

This happens with so many albums. I have had this happen before but right now it is Owl City's album, Maybe I'm Dreaming. I have liked the OG album from 2008 but the one on his page says it is from 2009. I have liked the 2008 album but the 2009 one doesn't have any of those songs liked. So there are two different albums with the same songs. These uploads should be fixed and more organized. I don't even know how you would access the 2008 version because it isn't on his page. I can access it because I liked it back in 2008 but if I unlike them I wouldn't be able to see it.

these forums are pretty much useless. spotify (like most companies) just has them up for show but never actually checks them or does anything for their users. all they care about is impressing investors by shoehorning **bleep** onto the platform and not actually fixing any of the serious persisting issues.
