Can I make a custom order with my playlist folders?

My Question

My question is quite simple, is it possible to place my playlist-folders in which ever order I like? I have the sorting option ’Creator’ on and I can order my playlists in which ever order I like, but I cannot seem to do so with my playlist-folders. I do not seem to get that ’green line’ which indicates where the current playlist is being placed. I only get the ’green box’ which indicates that the current folder is going to be placed inside another folder - which is not what I want.

Not the biggest of deals but it feels like it would be an easy fix, but hey, what do I know? I just have a lot of playlists which I like to sort in folders, then it would be nice to be able to sort my folders as well.

I hope my question is clear.

Hey there @hooverz,

Thanks for reaching out via the Community! Yes, it is possible to reorder your folders, although you'll need to use the Spotify desktop app or Web Player to set the initial custom arrangement.

To do this, go to Your Library then select the Playlists filter and Sort by Custom order (we recommend that you set the View either by Compact list or Default list). After this, you should be able to drag your folders up and down so that the green lines appear and you'd be able to sort them how you prefer.

To see the custom order on your phone, go to Your Library, tap the Playlists filter, and set the Sort option to Custom order. If the changes don't appear immediately, try restarting the app to force a sync.

Lastly, it's worth mentioning that there's a Live Idea here which is about the ability to better organize playlists in folders on the mobile app. You can check it out and add your vote in order to show support.

Folders cannot be sorted on Android

Folders can now be created on Android and using custom sorting, but the mobile version does not allow folders themselves to be sorted.

Given that a lot of users exclusively use the Android app, are you planning to allow these changes directly from the phone? It seems like that would be the standard approach.

At the moment, we don't have any additional information about this functionality going to Android or how long it can take. If there's any relevant updates about it, they will be posted on our newsroom, so stay tuned.

In the meantime, we'd recommend creating an idea about it so it could start gathering votes and eventually reach the relevant departments. We'd also recommend keeping our guidelines in mind to avoid any early rejection.

I am on the desktop app. After selecting "custom order" on a folder of playlists, the "no symbol" (circle with the line through it) appears and no green line appears when trying to drag and drop playlists to rearrange them. How do I fix this?

Thanks for your reply here.

We could not replicate this behavior. We suggest you log out and log in twice in a row onto your Spotify account. This could sound a little bit odd, but this way the system will force a resync of your account in general.

If the issues persist, we'd like to gather some additional info. Please send us:

The Spotify version you're running.
A video recording. You can attach the video in your next reply in mp4 format, or upload it to YouTube or Google Drive and make it public.

Note: Be aware this is a public space, so please don't share any personal info on the video you'll send us.

Still can't rearrange playlists on the iPhone app so playlists I made first are all the way at the bottom, the custom order option is there in library but you can't hold and drag them to move them, it just comes up with the option to pin, move to folder or delete,
