Playlist drag-and-drop only moves songs to top or bottom

My Question or Issue

In playlist edit mode on the mobile app, I can no longer freely drag songs to a specific position in the playlist. When I try to move a song, it only allowed me to put it on the very top or the very bottom instead of being placed between other songs.

The playlist is set to “Custom order,” and I am the owner/editor of the playlist. Restarting the app and changing sort order did not fix the issue.

The affected device (make/model) and its OS version.
The exact Spotify app version you’re currently running.
A short video recording of the issue in action. You can attach it to your next response by using the Insert Video option in the post editor or upload it to YouTube/Google Drive and share the link with us (make sure the video has the permissions for anyone to watch it).

Same problem. It just started a few days ago. Spotify must have changed something last uodate. .Paula Vi reply not helpful as it is a spotify issue, not caused by user

What Paula is asking for is standard information to be able to understand the root cause of the issue. She isn't inferring that it's user error.

FYI, I am also experiencing the issue on my Google Pixel 9a running Android 16. Spotify version is 9.1.44.2120

I experience the same Problem. Motorola Smartphone. Android 15, same Spotify Vers. as Hazard 74. Very annoying.

A new version of the app should be available. Would you mind checking if the same happens when updating the app?

If issues persist, we'd like to pass this info to the relevant team. As mentioned above, we'll need:

The exact Spotify version you're running.
The make/model and exact OS of the affected devices.
Any troubleshooting steps you've tried so far.

I am having the same issue, using a Pixel 6a. I uninstalled and reinstalled the app and still happening. Super annoying 😩

I've been having this problem for a couple of weeks. I reported it and never heard anything back. Previously you could drag and drop anywhere, now when you press on a track two options appear at the bottom left - Move or Remove. If you hit Move two more options appear - Top or Bottom and you can't move anywhere in the playlist as we've done for years. Those options have never appeared before. Using a Motorola and version 9.1.50.1906. If I install Spotify from 31st March it works the old way, so it's only recent updates. I've got a Premium account and it's a major feature that's not working, not fair to be paying for something that's not working.

Hey folks,

Thanks to some excellent investigative work by our colleague @Yordan, we were able to identify the root cause of this issue.

It appears that the behavior occurs when the drag and drop handle is long pressed. That triggers a feature where you can select multiple songs which then only lets you move them to the top or bottom of the playlist.

To get the usual behavior just quickly press and drag instead of holding it down.

@Yordan was also kind enough to share a screen recording demonstrating the correct action.
