I am on right now because the only option was to sign in using my facebook account. I have zero desire to attach the two accounts, especially as I was planning on using Spotify premium. My money my choice. Is there a way to create a spotify account without using one's facebook account?? It is crazy they would lose users this way. I spent an age looking for a way to do this, can someone please give me some help?

make a account with e-mail adress at the bottom!
That link is for the dutch, but it's probably possible for other countrys 2.

I created an account with spotify before this ridiculous Facebook nonsense materialised.. and until just now I thought that there was still an option to sign-up  either way, either by Facebook or just a spotify account.. I don’t have Facebook account and I don’t want one.. Why are you restricting your market to Facebook users, are your marketing people insane or did you just get a big back hander from facebook? This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard off, forcing people to sign up for a service, they don’t want or won’t use just to use your service… ABSURD!

I believe there is a reasonably safe surgical procedure to remove one's head from one's *** so perhaps you could get your management team to look into that?

Anyway, the reason I am typing this message is to say you have just lost another subscriber. I was saying  a friend of mine, who also does not have Facebook, how great the service was and they tried to go through the  “create and account process” and  when they got herded (Baaah) toward the Facebook login they decided against it..

Wake Up!

No, you can make an account without Facebook now. If you only read the beginning of this huge thread, there's lots of old info because Facebook was required when this thread was made.

If you signed up using a Facebook account, you can't disconnect it and you have to start over with a brand new account. Create one on the sign up page: http://www.spotify.com/signup/open/ (click 'create an account using your email address')

If you signed up for a Spotify account before Facebook was required, you can log into the desktop client (windows, mac or linux) using your spotify account details and disconnect in preferences.

Hi,

This is very interesting reading...a month ago I deleted my facebook account and immediately thought that I now can use Spotiy without anyone having to know what I listen to...Yesterday I ran into a friend whom I haven´t seen for a while, and he told me that he had seen what I had been listening to the day before. I thanked him for the information and at the same time told him that I no longer use FB. Now to my question: How do I disconnect my Spotify account from FB? When I joined Spotify, I didn´t have to connect it with FB so in my mind I can have one account which is just connected to Spotify and not to FB?

Hey! Welcome to the community :)

If you have a spotify account (and you didn't register using Facebook) then you will be able to disconnect your account. To do this, you need to log into the desktop client using your Spotify username and password (not your Facebook email and password) and then head to Edit > Preferences > Social Network > Disconnect from Facebook. If it says "Connect to Facebook" instead, then your account is not connected to Facebook. If you don't see this option, then you are logged in using Facebook and not your Spotify details.

You don't need Facebook, you can find your friends using their Spotify usernames. Have a read at this topic for all the details:

After spending about fifteen minutes of frustration and rebellion trying to figure this out I've found the solution. Truly.

I decided I no longer want to use Facebook, but actually really like spotify for its functionality and convenience. And I'm a premium user with low income that would be hard pressed to sacrifice the $10 AND all my playlists just to create a second Spotify acct that isnt linked to FB....

So here's the solution:

1.)Open the spotify app on your desktop, go into the 'Edit' dropdown menu and click 'Preferences'. Then uncheck all boxes that imply sharing spotify activity on other networks and apps, namely facebook.
2.)Go to Facebook>Account>Apps and remove spotify and be sure to choose the option to remove all history of your spotify activity.
3.)Deactivate your facebok account (if you wish to do so).
4.) Go to [https://www.spotify.com/us/account/offline-devices/] and create a password for your devices.

So from now on when logging into spotify you will be required to use the assigned username which consists of numbers rather than your email or a username of your choosing. Fortunately your email will still be associated withy our spotify account for updates and whatnot.

Enjoy, i hope this was helpful!!!

Unfortunately, you can not  create a Spotify account by itself apart from Facebook.  This has caused outrage in the community and even though many users have made it clear that they will be canceling their accounts if Spotify doesn't change it they still won't budge. I recently decided to delete my Facebook account and was forced to cancel my premium Spotify account because of it. I'm going back to Pandora. I suggest that you do the same.

That is interesting.  Is Spotify owned by FB?

Not that I know of, but I'm sure they get a **bleep** ton of money to to exclusivly sync their accounts with FB, Think about it, anyone who wants to use Spotify (a service which I love btw) Is forced to create a facebook account if they don't already have one (which I hate). There are literally thousands of comments on Spotify forums of people protesting this decision but Spotify has pretty much given us all the middle finger. It won't change until enough people (like me) cancel their premium subscriptions and Spotify decides it's losing enough money to change. If/when they do allow us to have an account without FB I'll be back in a heartbeat. Until then, I'm out. This is bull**bleep**.

Hey guys,

Just to clarify - No, Spotify is not owned or paid by Facebook.

The idea behind the integration is to make your Spotify experience smoother and easier, with one less password and username to remember.

We do genuinely listen, if you'd like to suggest it as an Idea in this Community, please do so. Just head to 'Ideas and Feedback'.

Yeah Sam, How's that working out for you? It would appear obvious to anyone that the Facebook integration is not making the experience smoother or easier, either for your customers or for you guys in support. In fact you guys in support seem to do nothing else these days apart from answer queries about problems with Facebook integration, much to the detriment of all the other queries here in the community.

For those wishing to protest, there is already an 'Idea' logged here... http://community.spotify.com/t5/Spotify-Ideas-and-Feedback/Not-to-be-forced-into-just-Facebook/idi-p...

Just to be perfectly clear, I am not 100% against the Facebook integration. It would be fine, if it actually worked and had been thought through properly, but it doesn't and it wasn't. It was obviously rushed, no doubt for political reasons, and now you poor guys in support are having to pick up the pieces.

I am more angry and irritated at the amount of time it's taking your developers to fix this, and the amount of your time in support that is being taking up by this when you could be answering other more pertinent queries that are currently getting ignored, than I am by the idea of Facebook integration.

The only true problem i have atm with the fb integration is the inability to make my spotify username something other than a bunch of numbers

It is my understanding a huge chunk of the members of this community have already suggested this. If you were in the US you would know there is a strong push against FB and their lack of commitment to privacy. I will take my money elsewhere. I do not wish to deal with a company like yours. I would ALWAYS be set private. It is no one's business but mine what I listen to.

This is not about facebook integration (maybe to you guys it is). It is about a lack of options. I am not a customer and based on the contents of this thread never will be.  I want total privacy. A user name I have chosen. No connection to FB at all. I really mean none at all. But thanks for posting.
