This is strange. I thought it would be the firewall problem but I have made Spotify an exception and have uninstalled and reinstalled to no avail. My friend also has Spotify on his laptop and I managed to log in fine on that. Any ideas?

error 101 it is. ive disabled the firewall several times though. it says something about proxy settings also.
Hmm ok. Error 101 would nearly always suggest an issue with the firewall. Have you tried all the steps mentioned here? http://www.spotify.com/help/faq/error/error-101-126/
I know you mentioned that you've disabled the firewall, but I need to outline these steps. If you could give them a try.

What error(s) (if any) you get when you try to log in?
Error 101. I allowed the firewall. it says also aomething about proxys...
it so strange; it used to work since 15 minutes ago!

Look, if you've disabled the firewall, then just re-install the Spotify client now (don't forget to restart your device) and see what happens. Let me know if this works for you.
