Can't login - "Something went wrong"

Can't login - "Something went wrong"

I am trying to login on my iPhone, but I keep getting a generic "Something went wrong" error message. I use the same login on my Mac with no issues. What to do?

Hi there @TobiasHyldeborg,

Thank you for reaching out to the Community.

Can you perform a clean reinstall of the app? This will make sure there's no old cache files causing this.

If that doesn't do the trick, can you let us know which device this occurs on?

We'll keep an  eye out for your reply.

Take care!

Live, love, laugh and listen to music 🙂

I have exact the same issue.

First the app could not load any playlist. A restart of my phone fixed it for a while. I was still able to continue my current playlist.

I reinstalled the app and now I can't log in. Password change did not do the trick, sign in from a link (creation on my device does not work) created on my iPad doesn't work either.

The device is an iPhone 7 running iOS 15.0.1. I can still login on my iPad or Mac.

Hey @mo3rkus,

Thanks for posting here 🙂

Could you open an incognito window and then try again resetting the password

It's also a good idea to try with another network to see if that helps.

In case you're using any battery optimization or power saving apps, you can deactivate them for Spotify.

Let us know how it goes.

I am not able to log into the Spotify app. When I try logging on I get a “something went wrong, please try again” error message. When I try creating a new free account with a new email, I get the same message. I am able to access Spotify via the web player. I have tried deleting and reinstalling the app. My phone even had an update, that did not work. Nothing is working. Please help!

Hey there @Julianelson,

Thank you for reaching out on the Community

Good troubleshooting so far! In order for us to look further into this, please provide us with the following info:

  • The make, model and OS of your mobile device.
  • Whether the issue persists with Wi-Fi and/or with 3/4/5G.
  • If the issue persists on a different mobile device.

We'll be on the lookout for your response.

Cheers!

Same here. Search didn't work, then I cleared the data ("clean reinstall") and now I can't login anymore.

Android 12 on a Pixel 4a. Search has been broken for years for me on various devices. If I now I cannot login anymore than there is no reason for me to keep my subscription. Browser/Desktop login still works.

Please... this is beyond frustrating.

Hey @neh10,

Thanks for posting here.

It's a good idea to try with another internet connection. Are there any changes?

If the issue persists, could you please share with us a screenshot of the error message? Just make sure any sensitive or private info is hidden. We'll look into this further.

Keep us posted.

I’m having this exact same issue. I was randomly logged out this morning despite it working just fine earlier this week and when I tried to log back in it said that my password and email combination was incorrect yet not changing it. When I tried to log in without a password it said that the email didn’t belong to an account yet seeing multiple emails from the Spotify email account. I reinstalled the Spotify app and tried to log in without a password again and now it’s saying “Something went wrong.”

Hey @Bonkin,

Thanks for reaching out about this in the Community!

Can you let us know if you can log in with your account on other devices?

Keep us posted.

I have the same problem with my iphone5 but no problems on my Mac or my iPhone X. This is on a wifi network, not cellular.

Hi there @lagoon420,

Thanks for the post.

You can't log in on your iPhone 5 since Spotify is supported only on devices running iOS 13 or later. This means, that the app won't let you log in on the phone. If you somehow manage to log in we can't guarantee that all functions of the app would work as expected.

Cheers.

Hi Alex,

I can't login to Spotify on my new phone: Something went wrong!

Phone is a Xiaomi 12S Ultra running MIUI 13.0.5 on Android 12.

I have tried logging in on this device using three different internet connections: home wifi, work wifi, and mobile data

I can login fine on my old phone on all these connections, as well as on home PC and work PC. So there is no fault with the internet connection.

It is a fresh installation of the spotify app on the phone. Despite this, I have cleared the data, uninstalled it, restarted the phone, reinstalled it from playstore, and tried again - issue persists despite the clean reinstall.

I can't even log in without password because when I select that option, I get "Error requesting link, please try again"

I have a paid spotify account, why is it not working?

Hey @Shaunuss,

Thank you for your reply in this thread! This sounds a bit odd and we'll do our best to help you out here.

First off, we recommend that you check the phone's battery settings and make sure that Spotify is set as an exception if you're using the battery optimization option.

If a family member has a Spotify account, it could also be a good idea to ask them to log in on your device to see if the app behaves the same way.

In case it does, it'd be great if you could let us know your Spotify version. Any screenshots you can provide will also help us investigate further.

We'll be on the lookout for your reply!

Hello,

Tried all of the above. No go. My girlfriend got the same error trying to log into her account on Spotify app on my phone.

I am stuck

Hey @Shaunuss,

Thank you for keeping in contact.

To continue with the process, would you mind uninstalling the app and trying with the Web Player to see if it makes any difference?

Also, would you mind including a screenshot or a short recording where we can see the error message you're receiving?

We'll be on the lookout.

Hi Oscar,

Cheers for the reply.

When I uninstall the app and try the web player I get this (see screenshot)

The app does not permit me to take screenshots within it, or screen record. But there's literally nothing remarkable to see.

I correctly input my e-mail address and password, and instantly white text appears below the password box with the message:

Something went wrong, please try again later.

I know I have entered my credentials correctly because if I input an incorrect password, I get an error regarding that. The correct credentials yields the above.

Hey @Shaunuss,

Thanks for your reply and for the info shared.

In this case, we'd like to know, is there an external SD card installed on your device? If so, remove it and reinstall the app in the internal memory of your device. Make sure to use the app without inserting the SD card again.

On another note, just to confirm, did you use a VPN? If yes, try switching it off. Make sure your mobile device doesn't have any update pending.

Lastly, did you notice if this is happening on a different mobile device? It'd be awesome if you could check. You can ask for the mobile device of a relative or a friend to open your account and check.

Keep us in the loop!

Hi AlejaR,

No SD card. No VPN. No updates pending.

Spotify worked fine on my previous phone, Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro.

I received delivery of my new phone six days ago. This phone is brand new, freshly installed, everything updated to current. No VPNs, no other weird apps or settings designed to block anything.

I can log in to my account fine on all other devices I've tried, and on all internet connections I have access to.

Hey @Shaunuss,

Thanks for getting back to us!

By saying that you can successfully log in in another device and that Spotify works as expected on your previous phone, you got us thinking that there might be an issue with your new phone. Sometimes, despite being new and not used, its best to factory reset the device to see if that will help.

In order to do that go to your Settings> tap on Additional settings and try looking for Back up and reset. Then you can tap on Erase all data (factory reset) and choose All files on the phone. You'll probably see a pop up message asking you to confirm. You should confirm it and wait for the phone to reboot.

Note: You must bear in mind that a factory reset of a device deletes all its content, so you must make a backup of your data before doing it if you do not want to lose everything.

Hope this helps,

Let us know how it goes.
