Cannot Close Account

Cannot Close Account

I have a Premium Spotify Account and originally created my account using Facebook logon.

I am trying to disconnect from my Facebook logon, but need to use the same email address.

I've found all the articles which tell me that I need to unsubscribe from premium and permanently close account (so I can use the email on my new account) then will have to create a new account.

When I follow these instructions... https://community.spotify.com/t5/Spotify-Answers/How-do-I-close-my-Spotify-Account/ta-p/4663172

However, the problem is that clicking 'Close Account' on Step 3 of 4 just throws me back to Step 1. My account still works and I get not acknowledgement of cancellation.

I've tried in different browsers and the same each time.

Any ideas?

Hi @user-removed!

Just to check - are you trying to keep your accoount but disconnect it from Facebook, or close your Spotify account altogether in order to create a new one?

I'll be right here for your update.

Hi,

I’m really just trying to disconnect from Facebook, but I don’t have the
option to disconnect under Settings->Social.

One of the articles I found said this was because I use my Facebook account
to logon to Spotify (which I do), therefore would have to close the account
and create a new Spotify account logon (independent of Facebook).

Hence got to this point.

Many thanks

Hi @user-removed !

Thanks for clarifying that for me!

Would it be possible for you to try the steps again, but this time on a differnet device, or by clearing your computer cache before retrying?

Thanks.

Hi,

Tried on Windows 10 PC with Chrome and Edge browsers (cleared caches), plus
iPhone Safari.

Sadly, same result. Makes me think it’s a problem with the Spotify website.
Perhaps they don’t want me to leave 🙂

Thanks

Hey @user-removed !

Thanks for trying that!

In this case the information here should allow you to unlink Spotify from your Facebook:

All the best.

Thanks, but unfortunately it is Option 2 ‘close old account’ which is
failing, as I need to release my email before creating the new account.

Hi @user-removed ,

As long as you have preformed the steps here:

https://support.spotify.com/article/how-to-cancel-your-subscription/

Then your account page should now show the date you free service will start here: https://www.spotify.com/account/subscription/

After that date you should be able to cancel your account with no issues.

If you do run into any more issues though please reply back to this thread and I will be more than happy to assit you further 🙂

Al the best!

Hi!

Well, as you can see by my change in username, it worked!

The issue was obviously that even though I cancelled the membership, I had to wait for the subscription to expire.

Many thanks for your help @Robert_W

Hey @GW4_2 !

So glad to see it is now resolved for you, and thanks for updating me!

I'll be here if you ever need any help in the future 🙂

All the best.
