Changing country, want to continue with free?

Last August I registered for spotify in Malaysia and started with the premium trial. At the end of August I had to move to the UK for studying purposes so I got to use the free trial for a few weeks until it ended and continued using spotify for free for 2 weeks. Now, I wasn't aware of the 2 week allowance to use spotify in a different country so I stopped using spotify. Now that I'm based in the UK, is there any way I can change my country of registration from Malaysia to the UK without having to pay anything and upgrade? I would like to start using spotify again, but I would prefer to use it for free at the moment and maybe upgrade some time in the future. Thanks for any help in advance.

Hi, you should be able to change your country by logging into your account page and editing your profile. Here is a link to the account overview page. Once there, just scroll down until you see the "edit profile" button, click on it, and you'll be taken to a page where you can edit these details.

Thanks for your reply! I've tried that before and I see the option to change country, but the drop down bar is greyed out so I can't change anything! I clicked on the 'changing your country' link and it gave me 2 options: the first was the method you suggested to me and the second is for premium users and that involves a charge I think?

Strange, but not the first time I've seen something like that. It should let you change it to the UK as long as your IP address is there. Since that doesn't seem to be happening, I would recommend contacting Spotify support directly, so they can help you get it changed. You can contact them from this Support Form.

 

Please be sure to reply to any automated emails (even if from a no-reply address) to speed up communication. Someone will get back to you as soon as possible; usually within 24 hours, but it can take longer depending on the number of support requests being worked on.

I sent a message to spotify about this when you suggested it but I've not heard back still. Should I sent another prompt message or am I likely to hear back about this over the next few days?

Support usually replies within 24-48 hours.

If you still have not gotten a reply:

Did you get a confirmation email from the contact form? It should be similar to "Spotify Support Case #XXXXXXX". If so, reply back to that email and tell them you still need help.

 

If you got an automated reply email telling you to check the help section or the community, you need to reply back to it saying you still need help, even if it's from a no-reply address.

 

If you never got an email, look in your spam folder to see if there is an email in there. Make sure you are checking the email account you used to sign up to Spotify. You can check the email on your account here.
