Changing email

The email that is hooked up to my old spotify account is not an email that I use anymore. I am trying to change it and it tells me the email I have entered is already being used. I have made another spotify account before so I went to reset the password to that spotify account and it is telling me no active account is hooked up to that email. This help system is ridiculous there needs to be a help fest or chat help available. Please help me fix this issue I have no need for two spotify accounts and want my active one hooked up to the correct email.
