Changing primary email for account

I'd like to create a new account that is not tied to Facebook. However, I want to use the same email address that is normally used as my primary email for facebook. When I try to create the new account it states that the email is already taken. I tried changing the primary email for Facebook, but that did not fix the problem. Is there anything else that I can do?

Don't worry! Our Accounts team can free up your email address, so you can create a new username account. They can also help you transfer all your music and followers. You can get in touch with them from any of our social media help sites: @SpotifyCares and SpotifyCares, just send them a private message with the email address linked to your Facebook account.
