I have downloaded the desktop player but it does not recognize my login credentials.

To confirm, are you trying to log into the Spotify Desktop app or the Web Player?

Also, are you able to log into your Spotify here?

It'd also be best to perform a clean reinstall of the Spotify desktop app here.
