Does Spotify works on smartphone if I have only free account?

Does Spotify works on smartphone if I have only free account?  

I understand that it requires subscription but I had it working for some time showing the track list and some info, which are nice.  Then after my Windows phone got updated, I can't no longer log in anymore.  Not sure if it's a Windows phone thing or not?

Ads or some limitation are fine with me but since I won't be subscribing anytime soon so if I can't even log in with any phone anymore then I don't thnk there is a need to download the app no more, right?  

Can anyone confirm with me?  Thanks!
