E-mail already in use, serious issue.

E-mail already in use, serious issue.

First time on Spotify today, excited to give it a try... only my email was already in use. 

 

What I found is that someone had setup an account and used my email address. So, I reset the password and logged in... which confirmed beacuse it was totally not my information at all. The account already had playlists of music that I definitely wouldn't have added. I got worried and dug through my inbox, but confirmed I didn't have anything in my inbox from a registration and wondered does Spotify not verify email accounts?

 

So, to test, I ended up just changing it to some random email address then went back through the registration process with my now freed email address.

 

This seems like a serious issue. Couldn't someone just itterate through a list of known email addresses and setup accounts? Also, it didn't prompt me for ANY verification (other than password) when I changed the email in my account. I know it's just a music account, but this seems like a big loophole.

Sorry to hear about your account being previously used in the Spotify System...however, I'd like to point out that this is awesome feedback! Unfortunately, I don't know myself if this is something that the Spotify Dev/Team has acknowledged in the past so I would wait for their response.
