Family plan - switch users

Hi all,

I just updated to a family account and added my girlfriend, she accepted and het premium account is set up. So far, so good.

My question: on the IOS app, how do I add both her and my account in order to switch easily to who's listening?

I reckon there's a similar option as in Netflix's 'who's watching', but I can't find it.

Hey there @beauterham and welcome to the Spotify Community!

Spotify Family is actually connecting multiple accounts under one billing umbrella. You still have separate accounts, so the only way to switch users would be to log out and back into Spotify from the other account. 

As of this time, there is no toggle between users.

Bummer Spotify, this creates a very cumbersome user experience and should have been a main element of the Family account functionality.

Another vote for the switch facility, I'm on a family account, my husband has the main log in on the desk top and I don't want to clutter his account with my music. Which was kind of the point of having that premium account - so somewhat irritated that I can't just switch user 😕

Spotify... please look to NETFLIX for account-user-switch-with-ease system! Logging out and re-logging in is far too cumbersome for a family of 6 users (all under one 'Family Account') ranging in age from tiny to huge... inevitably we are constantly cluttering eachother's music memory, confusing Miles Davis with Justin Bieber and Biggy Smalls with Little Mix as we use eachother's accounts!

This is seriously poor Spotify. I've been a evangelical fan of yours for yonks, but this really is shoddy. Especially since it's been an issue since 2016.

October 2017, still no option to easily change profiles.

Agreed. Very annoying. Spent a year as a single user and had a great Discovery Playlist experience. Then my kids figured out how to access Spotify through Amazon Echo and mucked it all up. Now my Discovery includes children music and 80's pop. I'm probably going to start looking at alternative options to see if anyone else has a family account to has user switching.

Only real solutions today are: "Go to Netflix" or "Go to Deezer".

Deezer handles this really nicely so that my daughter can do it (and will take the time to do it) so my playlists will not get her hits.

Please Spotify, allow such "switch user" fonctionality for Deezer Families !!!

I would like to switch my Family to Spotify (for many reasons) but keep back on Deezer because they allow this kind of quick switch.

For anyone else that finds this post, I have a DIY workaround for this.

All the login info is stored in the file: %AppData%\Roaming\Spotify\prefs, so you can login as one user, copy and rename the prefs file. Then login as the other user. When you want to switch back, just overwrite the prefs file with what you copied.

I wrote a batch script to overwrite the prefs file then start Spotify, I have two copies on the desktop, one for each user.

The scipt is:

copy C:\Users\User\AppData\Roaming\Spotify\prefs_User1 C:\Users\User\AppData\Roaming\Spotify\prefs /Y
start "" "C:\Users\User\AppData\Roaming\Spotify\Spotify.exe"

Hope that helps someone else out there

This seriosuly needs to be a feature, my girlfriend and I just signed up for a family plan under the assumption there would be an easy way to switch between users (Netflix style) as we both share a computer. Very dissapointed to find this is not the case and now wondering what exactly the point of a family plan is.

Another vote for a faster toggle between users. Currently way too slow and cumbersome to log out and then in again.

$15 a month and I can't switch users easily. Fix this Spotify. Unvbelievable.
