Gift cards with student discount

If one is redeeming a gift card can one still use the student discount?

If you are on premium with student discount and want to redeem a gift card for yourself: the subscription will be extended but without a discount. Means, if you buy (or was given) a card for 9.99$/pounds a month of premium will be added but not 2.

You want to give someone who's on student discount a gift cards: same as above. He can redeem the card with no problems but still you have to pay the full price.
