Gift subscription to friend won't work because of different countries

Hi. I purchased a gift subscription for a friend yesterday. We both live in Malaysia. We live in the same city. When she tried to use her redemption code she gets the error to say that the number is not valid for her country. My own spotify account thinks I live in Australia - in fact I live part of the year in each country. I think from what I have read that I need to change my country code but I cannot do this unless I change my payment method to a Malaysian method. I only have an Australian credit card and paypal account. I have no Malaysian payment methods. How can my friend redeem the gift subscription I have paid for?

Your friend, unfortunately, won't be able to redeem the Gift Card, because it's an Australian Spotify Gift Card.
