Yes, this whole issue started when I deactivated my Facebook account for a few days and then my sister said she could no longer search for me on Spotify. I then discovered that my name was appearing as a list of random numbers. I reactivated my Facebook account and it didn't seem to fix the problem. I switched to a non-Facebook linked account but I am not sure if it fixed anything. In fact it made it worse. Now my "username" is an even longer string of random digits and I can't search for new friends at all because my account is not linked to Facebook. I can only search the profiles of friends that I added when it was still linked to Facebook. I wish the world didn't revolve around Facebook, I am so over it.
If you are still having problems, would it be possible to create a new Spotify account, and link it to a Facebook account (so that you have the name, rather than random digits and letters) or create a new username upon the creation of the account (with a new email address)? As Spotify doesn't let you change your username, I cannot think of another solution, other than this work-around, for now. I hope that this helps! Please note that I am not employed by Spotify, nor am I linked with them in any way.
The problem was that when I deactivated my Facebook account it seemed to have an effect on my Spotify account. I don't want them to be linked if that happens every time I decide that I need a break from Facebook. I already went through the process of transferring to a new account and I don't really want to do it again. We should be able to have fully functional Spotify accounts and the option to search for friends whether or not we use Facebook.
Perhaps you could suggest that to Spotify, as a new feature? That would be useful to those who want to change their username, even if they already have one (because some people set one when they're younger, and want a more professional looking one when they're older, if that makes sense?) I hope that helps I am not employed by, or linked to Spotify in any way.
Any update on these since 2013? I originally created my account with Facebook, but deactivated it after the recent security issues. Now my username is just a number. I don't want to create a new account, because I don't want to lose my history, library, and personalized data. And I don't want to use Facebook. Any other ways introduced to be able to change username?
A) It would be nice to have the option to just change the way an account displays without needing to change the actual username, the way it apparently happens for "friends" when an account is linked to Surveillancebook
B) I will never link my account to Facebook C) F**k Facebook
